Double Unboxing: 2014 K-Beauty Wrap-Up and Hair and Body #3

Hello again, folks.  DHL has made another visit to my happy apartment and left me treats! (Yeeeeeah!)

Here’s the spiel on Memebox:

Memebox is a company that provides “mystery” boxes with Korean beauty and skincare products.  It’s not a subscription service, so you have to buy each box individually (and hope the one you want doesn’t sell out before you get to it).  They have three classes of boxes: Memeboxes, which have 4-8 full size or deluxe sample products; Luckyboxes, which are a kind of “best-of-the-best” box that have the most loved products in them from previous boxes; and Superboxes, which contain only full size products.

Everyone caught up? Awesomesauce.  Let’s unbox!

1. 2014 K-Beauty Wrap-Up No.1

A. Secret Key Body & Dress Perfume Mist 80mL (full size)

I am a mystery.
“From jasmine, musk, citrus to floral and fruity, Secret Key’s popular Perfume Mist comes in 7 different fragrances each with its own flavor and spice to it! These Perfume Mists can be sprayed on your body, hair and clothes.”
So these were randomly selected from 7 possible fragrances.  I got… blue?  I don’t know what blue smells like.  Let me go see if I can look it up. …..Nope.  Fantastic.
Well, it doesn’t really matter anyway, since my job’s in a fragrance-free workplace (there’s signs up and everything) and if I’m not wearing the metric crapton of BPAL perfume I own I’m not likely wearing any scent at all.  It would have been nice to know what scent it was though.
Edit: someone on reddit asked me what this actually smelled like, so I cracked it open.  It smells like Febreeze.  Mystery solved… womp womp.

B.  RiRe Lip Manicure 10mL (full size)

“What exactly is a Lip Manicure, you might ask? RiRe’s sensational lip series – Lip Manicure – refers to 7 different vivid lip colors that boost the level of color radiance and long-lasting finish of nail manicures.  Plus, they’re totally waterproof and do not wear off when you eat, drink, or talk.”
These were also randomly selected, and while I didn’t get what would be my first choices (chiffon coral or warm peach) I did get rich raspberry which is very wearable.   My guess is that this product is supposed to be similar to Clio’s Lipnicure  (how on Earth could I possibly think that), which you actually do apparently need a real cleanser to get off your face.  RiRe had some eyeliner pencils in the K-Style #1 box and I’ve liked the quality of those okay (I’m wearing the brown one right now as a matter of fact) so I’m interested to try this product out.

C. Secret Nature From Jeju Cream 50mL (full size)

“Made from organic broccoli, aloe vera leaf, asparagus, and carrot extracts all cultivated pesticide-free in the Jeju Island, Secret Nature’s From Jeju Cream is extremely gentle to skin and works to deeply nourish and create a protective moisture layer over your skin to lock in the moisture, for a more radiant and glowing complexion.”
I swear, it’s like Memebox is allergic to sending me spatulas with jar products so that I don’t contaminate things.   Anyway, this is a facial lotion that comes in a fairly solid frosted glass jar.  The main problem that I see is that the neck of the jar is so much smaller than the inside, which means that as you get close to using up all the product you’re going to have a hard time getting to what’s left.

D. The Skin House Dr. Clear Magic Stick Roll 15mL (full size)

This is such a hipster box with its wood grain.
“Dr. Clear Magic Stick Roll is an easy to carry around roll-on type of spot treatment and it can be used whenever and wherever your skin is in need of emergency care.”
Don’t worry about stitches! I’ve got the Magic Stick Roll!
…okay, probably not.
Lucky for me, this product had already leaked a little bit when I took it out of the box, so I just opened it right the hell up without worrying about it.  This works exactly like a similar spot treatment that you can get from Burt’s Bees here in the US (although that one smells a little more like herbs).

E. Oseque Dual Sun Block 70mL (full size)

“This is a mild sunblock enriched with various naturally-derived ingredients and suitable to be used for all family members. A distinctive feature of the Dual Sun Block is that it’s spray-type on one end and cream-type on the other end, so you can choose which application you prefer on different parts of your body and for different occasions.”
I can’t tell whether that option is really gimmicky or pretty cool.  In any case, I already have a sunscreen that I like quite a bit that has the exact same SPF/PA rating, so I don’t really see a need to try this one out.

F. W-Holic Roll On Perfume 10mL (full size)

“Capturing the spirit of women, the WHolic vision is not about one singular woman, but rather about the rich and varied personalities of WHolic women. Free of any alcohol and other chemicals, WHolic fragrance oils are consist of only fruit and other natural ingredients that won’t irritate the skin. The fragrance consists of a top, middle and base note that caresses the entire body, leaving a subtle fragrance that lasts all day. The effect is a chic, comfortable, and entirely addictive fragrance that leaves you feeling good all throughout the day!”
These were also randomly selected from 14 different options. I got Blackberry.   Again, perfume-free workplace – although I’m slightly more likely to try this than I would be the SecretKey mist.
Edit: someone on reddit asked me what this actually smelled like, so I cracked it open. It starts off with a really strong herbal/plant scent, and gets sweeter as it dries down.  The dry down stage gave me a bad headache so I washed the scent off – I don’t know any more about how the scent develops.

Final Box Notes:

I didn’t really love this box – I was frankly expecting more cosmetic products and less face/fragrance stuff.  I guess that’s the difference between the K-Style box and the K-Beauty Wrap-Up box – the K-style was all makeup.  I personally think that fragrance is just such an iffy thing that it’d be difficult to make everyone happy, but maybe it’s working well for them.
This box, according to the info card it came with, is worth $148.
So, will I use it?
Body & Dress Mist – Not even a little.
Lip Manicure – Absolutely. Gotta try that sucker on!
From Jeju Cream – Sure, why not? I don’t have a favorite cream yet.
Magic Stick Roll – meh, maybe.
Dual Sun Block – Nah. I’ve already got a favorite sunscreen.
Roll-On Perfume – Unlikely.

2. Hair and Body 3

A. Finco Body Toner Essence 200mL

“Free of animal oil, paraben, mineral oil, benzophenon, and triethanolamine, this Body Toner Essence is extremely gentle to skin, fast-absorbing, smooth and brighten up your body skin with continuous use. Plus, it’s infused with a perfume scent for a nice bodily fragrance.”
Here is the COSDNA ingredient analysis for this product, since I could just input the English.  I’ll try this out.  Its pH tested right at 5.   I don’t generally use a body toner so this could be nice.  It smells a little chemically but not too bad.

B.  Amini Conditioning Hair Shampoo and Rinse 30mL x 2 each (full size)

These are teeny, yo.
“Enriched with various organic extracts and natural essential oil, Amini’s popular Traveller Kit consists of a Conditioning Hair Shampoo for gently cleansing your hair & scalp and a Conditioning Hair Rinse for making your hair silky smooth.”
I’m surprised that Memebox is calling these full size when they’re pretty obviously part of a sample set.  The actual conditioner sells on the Memeshop for $28, and contains 500mL.  Side-eye, Memebox.
In any case, I was hoping to get a shampoo or conditioner (or both!) in this box so I’m excited to try them out. Sticking my nose in the open jars reminds me of candied citrus – maybe orange or tangerine? – so that makes me really happy.

C. Amini Body Soap Bar 120g (full size)

“Amini is a brand that emphasizes ‘enjoyment of natural affluence’ within reasonable prices and strives to provide health-beneficial beauty products with only the best and natural formula. This Body Soap Bar works to rejuvenate the skin with its gentle and replenishing formula consisting of lavender, spicy cinnamon, peppermint, and olive oil.”
Another Amini product.  If you signed up and got the Vitamin Box you got a similar product.  These were randomly selected from “Recovery”, “Nutrition”, or “Moisturizing”.  This green one is nutrition.

D. Cleosis Musk Perfume Body Mist 100mL

“Infused with a delicate musk fragrance, Cleosis’ popular Musk Perfume W Body Mist is for soothing and replenishing dry, UV-exposed body skin, and also for covering up any possible sweaty odor in the summer times or after a work-out. Refresh up with moist, perfumed mist for your body!”
The last thing I want to add to the smell of my own sweat after a workout is musk.  I’m just gonna lay that out there.  But then, I’m not really a musk person in general, so I’m probably not the person to ask.

E. Shabath Hello Kitty Massage Towel

“This adorable Hello Kitty printed Massage Towel is a Korean beauty essential whether going down to a public bath or simply taking a bath right at your own bathtub! You wear the Massage Towel over your hand like a glove, lather a body soap bar or a body wash on the towel, and gently scrub all over your body with it.”
Okay, so this product costs a whopping total of $3 BUT GUYS I AM SO EXCITED THAT IT WAS IN HERE.  I mean, Hello Kitty, yeah whatever, but I wanted to try one of these things (and I didn’t want to have to buy one)!  I’ve never been to a jjimjilbang (it’s on my list of things to do) and I guess this is the thing to use to scrub off all the nasty dead skin you’ve been accumulating. Frankly I would totally trade that body mist for a bunch more of these.

F. Shara Shara Dear Mademoiselle Hair Cap 15g and 5g (full size)

This is cute packaging. I approve.
“Dear Mademoiselle Hair Cap consists of easy two steps – Hair Treatment and Scalp Essence Hair Cap – for delivering rich nutrition to the hair and treating the scalp.  If you have dry or damaged hair, repair and renew once a week for silkier hair and healthier scalp.”
I have neither dry nor damaged hair – I don’t blow-dry it, dye it, curl it, or really do anything with it.  So I’m not sure I need this but by God I’m going to try it anyway!

G. CNKCOS Multi Cleanser Color Bean 120g (full size)

Don’t leave this around a toddler because they look like candy.
“There’s literally nothing that these Multi Cleanser Color Beans cannot cleanse away, because they function as a makeup remover, a facial cleanser, a scalp shampoo, a body wash, a hand wash, and even a facial & body scrub for removing dead skin cells! The fine powders and rich nutrition included in its formula work to leave your skin, hands, and scalp clean and silky smooth.”
These things kind of frighten me.  Can there be a legitimate product out there that cleans my face, my scalp, my hair, and my body exactly the same way all the time and yet does a good job at all of it?  I kind of doubt it.

Final Box Thoughts:

I liked more of the items in this box than I did in the K-Beauty box, although I thought calling the shampoo/conditioner set “full size” was a little off. I mean, I guess it’s a full size travel set, but.. well, whatever.
This box, according to the card info, was worth $106.
Will I use it?
Body Toner – Yup. Why not?
Shampoo/Conditioner – Heck yeah! Smells like citrus candy. I’ll put that on my head.
Body Soap Bar – Nope.
Perfume Mist – Not even a little.
Massage Towel – Oh yeah! Soooooo excited!
Hair Cap Treatment – Yeah, for funsies!
Color Bean Cleanser – Maybe? I dunno.
