Memebox Unboxing: TonyMoly and Holika Holika!

Guys, less than six hours left until the Milestone Giveaway ends!  Go sign up here!

On to the unboxing.

Although I already have a few TonyMoly products on my beauty desk already, when I saw the value set of TonyMoly and Holika Holika I had to order. It’s just all too cute!

Here is how Memebox works:

Memebox is a company that provides “mystery” boxes with Korean beauty and skincare products.  It’s not a subscription service, so you have to buy each box individually (and hope the one you want doesn’t sell out before you get to it).  They have three classes of boxes: Memeboxes, which have 4-8 full size or deluxe sample products; Luckyboxes, which are a kind of “best-of-the-best” box that have the most loved products in them from previous boxes; and Superboxes, which contain only full size products.

And now, on to the boxes!

1. TonyMoly Superbox

“We asked, and boy did you answer! We finally bring you our TonyMoly Box! Famous for their signature swoon-worthy packaging and its incredible effectiveness, TonyMoly is one of the most sought after beauty brands in all of Korea! In this TonyMoly Box, you’ll find all of Tony Moly’s holy grail beauty essentials – intensive skin care goodies, makeup must-haves housed in precious packaging, and body treats that are begging to be instagrammed!”

A. Delight Tint Crayon Neon

“Sweet and vivid under the daylight, TonyMoly’s Delight Tint Crayon Neon goes wild under UV lights with its electric neon colors! It melts onto lips like a lip balm with a long-lasting radiance and is easy to use with its auto-type packaging.”
This product was randomly selected from three shades: Neon Orange, Neon Pink, and Neon Cherry.  I got Neon Cherry.  This isn’t what I would think of as an actual red in the same way that the Innisfree Creammellow lipstick #8 is not an actual red – it may be on certain skin tones, but it really isn’t on mine. I end up with a bright reddish pink. The product itself does go on quite like a lip balm and it has a very glossy finish; it’s comfortable to wear and it’s not super sticky.  It smells like strawberry candy.  I may wear it tomorrow for Halloween!

B. Egg Pore Shiny Skin Soap

“A 5 in 1 Egg Soap that works to deliver moisture, nutrition, deep cleansing effect, sebum control, and pore care.  It’s made from fertile eggs soaked in vinegar for 1-2 weeks, a process that maximizes the level of calcium, protein, vitamin, amino acid, and various minerals found in eggs.”
I’m not really sure how this product is supposed to work, but it’s got hilarious packaging! The soaps are individually packaged in plastic and fit in the palm of my hand.  I’m not sure what the difference is between the white soap and the brown soap, either…. but even if I don’t use it my roommate will just for the entertainment factor.

C. Back Gel Eye Liner Long Brush

“A best-selling gel liner that comes with a brush of its own and boosts its super water proof and long-lasting formula.  The eyeliner glides on smoothly and precisely, then quickly dries down to a long-wearing, water-resistant finish.”
Again, this product was randomly selected from six colors: pearl brown, khaki black, pearl black, chico brown, latte brown, and grey brown.  I got pearl black.
Guys, guys, this is FREAKIN’ ADORABLE.  I went to go take the top off of the liner, and found out that the top stick bit comes off and has a brush inside! GLEE.  It’s portable and your brush won’t get all screwed up inside your makeup bag!  Super handy.

D. Luminous Goddess Aura Beam

“TonyMoly’s Luminous Goddess Aura Beam is a luminous gel type cream that adds supple, healthy glow to the skin, and minimizes the look of skin imperfections.  Mixed with your favorite BB cream or used alone, this miracle product will help you achieve that infamous gorgeous Korean skin glow!”

E. Mini Peach Lip Balm

“This adorable mini-sized lip balm comes in the size of a large coin and is scented with a lovely fruity peach fragrance that lingers on your lips long after application.  Its peach and shea butter formula is also extremely nourishing and leaves lips moist and supple.”
Not gonna lie, guys – I showed this to my roommate and the first thing she said was “It looks like a nipple”.
Regardless – this is an adorable product and it smells fantastic.  My roommate can’t smell a gas leak in our apartment, but she smelled the peach fragrance right from the pot.

F.  Panda’s Dream White Magic Cream

“A skin brightening and perfecting cream that locks in moisture and brightens dull complexions.  This super nourishing cream will bring vitality back to skin while evening out the skin tone.  Skin will feel soft and smooth after each application without the greasiness.  The adorable panda packaging and the light fruity scent is an added bonus!”
This is a thickish white cream.  The texture seems to me to fall somewhere in between a regular cream and the Dear by Enprani Bounce Cheese Cream – it’s pretty viscous.  I wouldn’t call the scent “light” or “fruity” really – it seems pretty heavily fragranced and the scent is somewhere between fruity and floral.

G. Appletox Smooth Massage Peeling Cream

“This is a multi-cream enriched with green apple extracts, AHA, and papaya extracts and which works as a massaging, moisturizing, and peeling cream all in one. Green apple extracts rich in Vitamin A, Vitamin B1, Vitamin C, and pectin acid are effective agents as skin exfoliators and revitalizers.”
I already have this in my skincare “stash”.  It’s a gommage peel with a lovely apple scent.  Since I already have this, I’ll add it to the Zombie Box that will be awarded tonight!

Final thoughts about this box:

TonyMoly really has some adorable packaging – and even though some of the products seem kind of gimmicky (I’m looking at you, weird egg soap things), I’m willing to give almost all of them a shot!  Nothing in this box was super valuable (they all seemed to be worth around $10), and the box was not worth as much as Memeboxes usually seem to be, but it seems like there was a really good cross-section of products – from skincare to cosmetics.  I’m pretty happy with it!

2.  Holika Holika Box

“Hey you Holika Holika-holics! The beauty box that you’ve all been waiting for is finally available at Memebox! Find all of Holika Holika’s real deal skin care, crazy cute makeup, best-selling body care, and much, much more all in this Holika Holika Box! Recommended for even K-Beauty beginners, this Holika Holika Box includes practical yet gosh-darn-cute beauty goodies that will really transform you into a Holika Holika-holic, leaving you begging for more! Open this box and bask in all of Holika Holika’s wonderful delights!”

A. Neon Beam Nails

“Electrify your nails with these unique glow-in-the-dark Neon Beam Nails! It’s colorful and pretty under the daylight, but when under UV lights, it’ll catch everyone’s attention with its neon vibrancy.”
That sounds almost exactly like the description of the TonyMoly lip crayon.  Is this a new trend? Things that look different under UV lights?
Anyway, this was a random selection – I got #06 Sky Pole.  It has a watery texture, and my first impression is that it would take at least two coats for opacity.

B. Aqua Petit Jelly Starter

“Formulated with glacier water, mint, and fine aqua pink pearls, this jelly-textured starter is the perfect 1 step primer for your base makeup.  It instantly delivers hydration and brings back a natural glow to otherwise dry, dull complexion.  Its jelly like texture also works to double makeup adherence for a lasting finish.”
I didn’t actually see a spatula in the box, but I didn’t want to open up the bottle to see whether one was cleverly stored inside the cap.  Since I have about 8 primers already, even though this product sounds awesome I’m going to put it in the Beauty Box!

C. Aloe 99% Soothing Gel

“Over 99% of the soothing gel consists of organic aloe vera leaf water from the Island of Jeju, Korea. Non-sticky yet highly moisturizing, it soothes, cools, hydrates, and rejuvenates skin with a gentle formula free of paraben, benzophenon, mineral oil, BHT, artificial coloring, etc.”
I think it’s super cute that this bottle is shaped like an aloe vera leaf. Adorable.  I don’t know that I’ll have a lot of use for aloe over the winter, but in the summer when my roommate inevitably burns it’ll come in handy, and maybe if I get wind-chapped while I run this winter it’ll be useful.  And I like that it’s organic!

D. Sweet Cotton Pore Cover Powder

“Infused with a blend of lotus water, noni flower water, sugar complex, and cotton extracts, this powder covers up uneven skin texture and locks makeup in place with a silky, cotton-soft finish.”
Interesting.  Sugar and cotton, on my face? I mean, I put snail and starfish on there on the regular so I can’t really have a snit over this.  And I do need a powder to set things with once I start wearing more foundation and concealer, so having this in the box is fantastic!  It’s got a nice fruity scent.

E. Jewel-Light Waterproof Eyeliner

“Create captivating eyes with Holika Holika’s Jewel-light Waterproof Eyeliner.  Long-lasting, waterproof, and ultra-smooth, this pencil eyeliner makes lining your eyes like a pro easy.  For a smoky, dramatic look, it can also double as a softly spreadable eye shadow.”
This was randomly selected from the following options: Black Crystal, La Piece La Jolie (?), Brown Amber, Olive Peridot, Chocolate Citrin, Olive Jade, Burgundy Garnet, and Black Plum.  I would have been happy with any of these colors, even the one that has a French name which makes no sense.  I ended up with Chocolate Citrin.  This is an automatic-style eyeliner, not a traditional eye pencil.  It goes on very pigmented, blends smoothly, and lasts well.  I may in fact purchase other liners from this series.

F. Heartfull Moisture Lipstick

“Holika Holika’s Heartful Moisture Lipstick is a lovely heart-shaped moisturizing lipstick with highly pigmented color.  It melts on the lips, making each application smooth and easy.  With its vivid color and glossy effect, plus its crazy cute container, you’ll be sure to become a Holika Holika-holic.”
There were three colors here: Baby Beige, Pink Love, and Kissing Red.  I got Kissing Red.  This is redder than the TonyMoly Lip Crayon but it is still kind of pink.  And while I think the idea of a heart-shaped lipstick is super cute, it actually makes applying lipstick straight from the bullet kind of awkward.

G. Jewel-light Shimmer Eyes

“Moist and silky soft when applied on lids, the Jewel-light Shimmer Eyes boosts its creamy, highly adherent texture and its long-lasting yet highly pigmented color radiance. Add jewel-like shimmers to your eyes for extra sophistication.”
This color is called “Yogurt”.  It’s kind of a yellowy beige, good for a blending or base color.  I don’t see any shimmer in this shadow, but it looks good.  It blends well and has no scent.

H.  Soda Pore Cleansing BB Oil

“Holika Holika Soda Pore Cleansing BB Deep Cleansing Oil is a low stimulating cleansing oil that clears blackheads and whiteheads for a clearer complexion. Formulated with olive oil, argan oil, and Harrogate water, this unique soda pore cleansing oil increases skin elasticity, regenerates new skin cells, heals tissue (scars), and acts as an anti-inflammatory agent to soothe irritated skin.”
I have yet to find a good cleansing oil, but this is going to have to work pretty hard to beat Banila’s Clean It Zero cleansing sherbet.  I’ll try it out – probably to take off my heavy-duty makeup after tomorrow night!  I know the Banila can remove my Clio Kill Black eyeliner pencil without any trouble – let’s see how this stacks up!

Final Box Thoughts:

Although this box isn’t as ‘cute’ as TonyMoly’s, there were still some pretty solid products inside!   This box was worth a little more than TonyMoly’s as well.  While still not as valuable as most of the Memeboxes I’ve seen in the past, I still am pleased that I bought this.
