Unboxing: Memebox Wish Upon A Mask

I’m a big, big fan of masks – clay masks, weird cacao masks, masks you peel away or rub around or mix with water to make a jelly.  My mother, sister, and I occasionally do a “day of beauty” where we watch entertaining television with wash-off masks on.  And I’ve grown to love sheet masks too, although they were never part of our routines growing up. So when Memebox releases mask boxes I’m always interested to see how they turn out, and what products make the grade.

“When skin doesn’t look as good as you want it to, wish upon a mask for blissful skin happiness! You can do the A to Z of skin care perfect skin, but one really good facial mask can do all that, in just 10 minutes! When skin gets flushed, cracked, or looks not-so-good, these masks do a blockbuster job of transforming dull, dry, and flakey skin into some sort of smooth radiant miracle. Try our top mask picks, brimming with essential vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants, for an extraordinary skin makeover!”

1. Banila Co. Claypatra Mineral Salt Clay Pack

“The 100% pure mud extracted straight from the Dead Sea (consists 32% of salt and minerals) effectively removes any excess sebum, oil, dead skin cells, and external pollutants clogged up in the pores.  The mineral-rich formula also delivers deep hydration and nourishment to dry, dull skin.”

This is a cute product, and I am a huge fan of Banila’s Clean It Zero, so I’m happy to try it. My only question is why Memebox provided us with a portion that is only 10% of the size of a full product (the full size of which costs approximately $17).  That would make this product worth about $2.

2. AHC Real Aqua Velvet Sleeping Pack

“A luxurious, one-step facial to rejuvenate, brighten, and balance out uneven skin tone and texture for velvety smooth complexion. Real Aqua Velvet Sleeping Pack is lightweight and non-sticky in formula, quickly absorbing into dry, exhausted skin to form a protective moisture barrier that locks in the moisture within skin overnight. It contains niacinimide, adenosine, ice plant extracts, snail secretion, and birch tree sap.”

This is a milky, but not thick, cream.  If I put a drop on my wrist and hold my wrist upside down, it stays put, but it’s more watery than what I would consider a ‘cream’.  It’s not strongly scented, so it would be easy enough to put it on and sleep at night without worrying about having dreams about weird smells.  It does hydrate really nicely.

3. Shara Shara Real Sauce Mung Beans Mask

“Mung beans have long been utilized as skin detoxifying and clarifying ingredients.  They’re highly rich in proteins, vitamins, and dietary fibers, effectively nourishing and brightening up visibly dull, dehydrated skin.”

Sheet masks!  I like sheet masks. And I’ve never tried a mung bean one before.

4. To The Nature Black Rice Hydrogel Eye Patch (5 sets)

“Enriched with organic black rice extracts, organic rice bran, carrageenan, gold extracts, adenosine, collagen, glucose, rosewood oil, and more, this Black Rice Hydrogel Eye Patch is all-natural and gentle to dry, sensitive skin. The hydrogel patches visibly diminish in its thickness as the nutrients packed inside absorb into the skin, firming and lifting up sagging under-eyes.  Free of paraben, artificial fragrance, and artificial coloring.”

I really like that there are 5 sets of the patches in this kit – it means that I have 5 chances to evaluate their performance before I need to decide whether I’ll order them again. They are only worth $9 for the whole box, though, so it’s not a big gamble anyway.

5. Purederm Yogurt Wash-off Pack (15 packs)

“A wash-off type pack made from yogurt extracts, collagen, Vitamin E, and various fruit extracts. The kiwi pack helps control excess level of dead skin cells…effective for maintaining a healthy, glowing complexion.”  (I left out the bits about the strawberry mask, since I got the kiwi one.)

I’ve heard such good things about PureDerm masks, and I’ve never tried a yogurt mask before, so I think this is a great place to start!  The box of 15 is worth $7.

6. Inoface Modeling Cup Pack 15g

“Experience home aesthetics with Inoface Modeling Cup Pack series which comes in 6 different types each catered to target different skin problems and conditions… Peppermint also soothes and replenishes dry, stimulated skin for a brighter, clearer complexion.”

I am supposed to mix this powder with water until it turns into a thick mud, and then squish it all over my face and leave it on until it hardens.  I wonder if it will smell like peppermint?

This box wasn’t awful, but it did leave me wanting a little more – and frankly the easiest way Memebox could have fixed that was to use the full size box of the Claypatra mask.  The sleeping pack is touted as being worth $30, but every other product in the box was worth less than $10 – so while I don’t strenuously object to any of the individual items, I’m unimpressed with the value of the box itself.
